Wikipedia Your Money!

Its that time of the year again, when you this this mans face pop up all over the web with a little begging bowl note attached to it.

This man is Jimmy Wales  Co-founder and public face of Wikipedia . Wikipedia, if you have not already realised runs all of it operations without advertising and relies solely on community donations to pay the millions of dollars it takes to keep such a website up and running. Every now and again they go on a bit of a funding drive to try and raise a little more cash for the coffers.

Do not take this message the wrong way, Wikipedia is not in any danger of running out of cash or donations soon and will still be there for you to use and abuse tomorrow and the day after. Yet, what I want you to think about is how often you use this service? How many times have you wanted to know something so obscure and random yet with Wikipedia you can read up on everything from the history of the Batmobile to a shoulder mounted Nuke rocket launcher? How many pub debates has it solved? Have you even added to it yourself?

Wikipedia is the largest collection of the worlds knowledge to exist online. Not only that, but it exists for free and in a completely open fashion. Wikipedia is the the digital form of pure open and free thinking with access to information for all.

Wikipedia deserves your money, however little you give £5-£500 it does not matter. What matters is if you have relied on Wikipedia for your job or for your own personal curiosity you owe it to them.

Please donate and keep information free and open for all.
