MadMinds Tilt - The greatest MacBook Accessory

I love my Macbook Pro. I Love it more than any other computer I have ever owned or built (even the custom Plexiglas case gaming rig with 12 flashing lights and UV strips built from the ground up). It has the power needed for my day to day use of VMs loaded down with copies of Server 2008 R2 along with one of the most important things for any traveling contractor, build quality. This thing feels like a solid piece of kit, no flimsy Dell and HP plastics in sight here, just that milled Aluminum UniBody design.

But

The heat…. Sitting here just typing away on Word I can see that my CPU temp is 45c, not too shabby. (Thanks to smcFanControl for temperature monitoring on my mac). Yet perform any CPU or GPU intensive task and this jumps, and it jumps up like a Springer Spaniel wanting you to throw the tennis ball. 97c is not uncommon. This is not really a problem for the components of the laptop, the CPU and GPU are rated to operated at temperatures much above this, the problem with this heat is that it cooks you when using it as a laptop. It is just not possible to have those kind of temperatures sitting on your lap, or not without major discomfort. So we have to look at the issue of cooling.

For a few months I have been using a Targus Chill Mat

Not the best solution in the world for myself as its not exactly portable.

Around 6 weeks ago though I stumbled across something amazing.  A cooler for my 15” MacBook Pro that is designed for it. The MadMinds Tilt is one of the greatest laptop accessories I have ever purchased. It fits perfectly, and means I can use my Mac on the sofa again. Not only that, once on, I don’t need to take it off again. It only adds about 1.5cm at the thickest part so make no impact to portability.

USB powered fans supposed to provide cooling for the mac do what they are designed to do, the internal component temperature does not really take much of a dip if any, but having that small air gap with consistent airflow beween the hot bottom of the Macbook and my lap allows a comfortable working or gaming position for more than 10mins at a time.

If you own a 15” Macbook pro and don’t own a Tilt, click this link and buy one now. You will not regret it.

Buy the Tilt now
